TIPS & SUGGESTIONS
  • Leave all valuables (cameras, jewelry, money, etc.) at home or locked in the trunk of your car.
  • Attach car keys to belt loop or canoe/kayak. Avoid holding them in your pockets.
  • Use holder to prevent losing eyeglasses.
  • Use waterproof bags for cell phones, food, or extra clothing, and tie in canoe/kayak.

 
CANOE & KAYAK TIPS
  • One life jacket per person must accompany each canoe/kayak.
  • Wear your life jacket.
  • Do not attempt a longer trip than you are capable of completing.
  • Wear river shoes or old sneakers.
  • DO NOT LITTER or destroy our beautiful forests and streams.
  • Carry extra dry clothing in a waterproof container.
  • Bring suntan lotion and insect repellent.
  • If you tip, keep upstream of canoe/kayak.

WHARTON STATE FOREST
Alcoholic beverages are NEVER permitted on the rivers nor at the campsites. Rangers do patrol, and violators can be fined and arrested. Pets are not permitted at campsites, but are OK in canoes during the day. Permits for campsites along the Wading River are obtained at Batsto. Permits for the Mullica and Batsto River campsites may obtained either at Batsto or the Atsion Ranger Station. Fire permits are only issued when conditions are suitable, so you should always have an alternate cooking means such as propane or Coleman stove. It is recommended that you reserve your camping permit in advance.
